OHOMOSEXUAL "MARRIAGE"

OBAMA'S CAMPAIGN WEBSITE NOTES...

"I believe civil unions should include the same legal rights that accompany a marriage license... However I do not support gay marriage.  Marriage has religious and social connotations, and I consider marriage to be between a man and a woman.  If I was President, however, I would oppose any effort to stifle a states ability to decide this question on its own.  Whether it was a Constitutional amendment banning gay marriage or a bill like the Defense of Marriage Act, I would oppose such efforts."

CAMPAIGN WEBSITE DOES NOT PROVIDE SUFFICIENT INFORMATION - (We apologize for our inability to find and post a direct statement concerning the candidate and "homosexual 'marriage' " from the official campaign website.  As of 6/9/08 it never mentions "homosexual 'marriage' ".   The above quote was found only by an outside link from the site to an HRC questionaire completed by Sen. Obama - Solidarity Institute research team)

OBAMA STATED...

I.
"And finally, an area that I'm very interested in is making sure that federal benefits are available to same-sex couples who have a civil union. I think as more states sign civil union bills into law the federal government should be helping to usher in a time when there's full equality in terms of what that means for federal benefits."

I assume you're talking about the Defense of Marriage Act.

"Absolutely, and I for a very long time have been interested in repeal of DOMA."

II.
Barack Obama has always believed that same-sex couples should enjoy equal rights under the law, and he will continue to fight for civil unions as President. He respects the decision of the California Supreme Court, and continues to believe that states should make their own decisions when it comes to the issue of marriage.
(

III.
If a state has taken the steps to recognize same sex couples and their families for purposes of state-based benefits, rights, privileges and responsibilities (such as marriage in Massachusetts and civil unions in Vermont and Connecticut), should the federal government recognize the state's legal recognition of such couples and families for purposes of federal benefits and tax treatment?

Support...

Do you support extending federal benefits, rights, privileges and responsibilities to same-sex couples (and their children) provided the partnership meets certain federal standards of commitment and mutuality of intrest.

OBAMA VOTED...

Sen. Obama voted "nay" on the amendment to define marriage as consisting only of the union of a man and a woman.

Constitutional Amendment - Marriage Protection Amendment - Declares that: (1) marriage in the United States shall consist only of the union of a man and a woman; and (2) neither the U.S. Constitution nor the constitution of any state shall be construed to require that marriage or the legal incidents of marriage be conferred upon any other union.

MEANING OF COLOR CLASSIFICATIONS

I.
If a candidate receives a classification...

RED    , this does not necessarily mean that the candidate is 100% in favor of the non-negotiable issue, only that the candidate's views find (some) serious and clear departure from that of the Catholic Church.

YELLOW,
this does not mean that the candidate is 50% in favor of the non-negotiable issue, only that there are details of the candidate's views that require the voter's compitant understanding.

GREEN  , does not mean that the Church supports or endorses a specific candidate, only that the candidate agrees with the teaching of the Catholic Church on the specific non-negotiable.

II.
Therefore if both candidates receive the same classification on a specific non-negotiable this does not necessarily mean that the candidates' positions are similar, nor that they carry the same degree of similarity or difference from the teaching of the Catholic Church.
