This is a peaceful prayer vigil and rally, sponsored by the Archdiocese of Denver Respect Life Office and the Office of Black Catholics. It serves as an opportunity for people to gather to pray and to be informed of the injustice of abortion and Planned Parenthood's agenda for minority neighborhoods. Dr. Alveda King, niece of Dr. Martin Luther King and Director of African American Outreach for the Gospel of Life Ministries, will address abortion as the civil rights issue of today and the issue of Planned Parenthood's targeting their abortion services toward African American and Hispanic women. "The fight against abortion is a new frontier in the Civil Rights Movement," stated Dr. King. "For blacks, abortion is a hidden issue. We didn't understand how dramatically abortion was affecting our families and society. We are not following Martin's dream if we do not stand up for the voiceless." The event begins with Dr. King speaking, followed by Pastor Willard Johnson of Macedonia Baptist Church in Park Hill and Archbishop Chaput. Concluding the prayer vigil, a candlelight walk is planned around the perimeter of the Planned Parenthood Abortion Clinic site. Most Rev. Charles Chaput, Archbishop of Denver, invites all to join him in this peaceful prayer vigil and rally. Also in attendance will be Most Rev. James Conley, Auxiliary Bishop of Denver. The Catholic Bishops of Colorado have stated: "Planned Parenthood calls itself pro-child, pro-woman and pro-family. Yet it is an organization based on falsehods about the human person, the family and community life." | ||
